THE STAR STILL SHINES

I was getting ready to release “The Star Still Shines” yesterday – more than two weeks later than I had planned – and the coverage of the shooting in California came on the TV. I paused. Maybe this wasn’t a good time. Maybe I should wait.

It didn’t feel like a Christmasy day at all.

It felt like so many days we’ve had lately as we’ve watched other human tragedies unfold and take their devastating toll on people.

In the end, I decided to send it after all. Surely on days like yesterday – and every day – we need some good news. Not to overlook or minimize the suffering that’s going on, but to give us a reason to hope.

Through all the personal and collective anguish we feel, the struggles and trials that unceasingly beset us, our shared grief and our isolated moments of pain, there stands our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with His arms outstretched, beckoning for us to come and be healed.

That’s the message of the song.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to reverse the world’s trend towards hatred and evil. But we can still find personal peace, by turning to Him who is the Prince of Peace. And no matter how dark things get in the future, He will always be waiting to lift, strengthen, and ultimately, redeem us.

The star still shines. And it always will.

Thanks for listening,

Shawna

P.S. I would love to hear your thoughts – about the song, the message, Christmas, the Savior, or anything else you'd like to share.

This song and video are so, so beautiful! (I also love “Do You Have Room?”) Thank you so much for sharing your spirit, your talents, and your testimony of the Savior.
