COMING SOON: RESTORED

I’ve written a song about the restoration.

Ideally, it would have been out before the first of the year. But I don’t write to a schedule. I just write when I get the inspiration. And to be honest, I haven’t had a lot of that lately. ;)

I had the idea for this song in mid December. I set out to write something that isn't just about the first vision, but the impact of the first vision, and the impact of the restoration. What do we know and what do we have because of it? How are our lives different because of it?

As I've written, I've felt an extra responsibility to make it right, and so I didn't want to rush it. Last year, I wrote, recoded and filmed three songs between Thanksgiving and the New Year. But this year is different. And this song is different.

Anyway, here’s the good news: We’re recording and filming on Saturday, January 16th. After that, we’ll need time to edit the video, so the song won’t really be out there until close to the end of January.

If you’re worried about the timing with Come Follow Me, you could always teach this song in March, when the first lesson is “The Church of Jesus Christ has been restored.”

And now, I’m going to ask for your prayers. I’m doing something I’ve never done with a music video before, and I’m a little nervous about it. But if it goes well, it’s going to be awesome.

Just one more thing. There are a lot of songs right now about struggle and suffering. This is a song about joy and hope. That's not to say that I don't realize that people are hurting. But, as I have gone through the process of writing this song, I've come to the conclusion that there are still a lot of things worth celebrating. And this is one of them.

Because of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we know SO MUCH MORE than we would know otherwise.

Because of the restoration, we can feel peace and joy, despite the impact on our lives of Covid, political unrest, or any other challenges that 2020 brought. Because of the restoration, we know what I believe to be two of the most hopeful doctrines in earth and heaven: 1) Families can be sealed for eternity, and 2) Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, all that is unfair about life can be made right.

I’m grateful to know those truths, and I’m holding onto them more tightly than ever.

Comment below if you have any questions. I can’t reply in the thread (which is maddening), but I’ll get back to you on email.

Finally, if you're not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you may be a bit confused by this post. You’re here because you’ve heard or sung my faith-based songs before and you’re curious about this song. I usually write songs that are meant for a broad Christian audience, but sometimes I write songs that are more specific to the Church I belong to. And this is one of those songs. That said, the message of this song is for everyone. If you have questions or comments, you can email me directly at Shawna(at)shawnaedwardsmusic(dot)com. I’d be happy to chat with you about anything.

Hi Shawna. LOVE the message of this song! I’ve been asked to accompany a friend who’s singing it in sacrament meeting. Wondering if you have a simplified version of the piano accompaniment.
Thank you. And Thank You for your music.

This new song is so filled with hope and joy and truth that I’ve hardly been able to stop listening to it. Thank you for hearing Him and sharing this witness.

We would love to order a piano and solo version of “Restored” as soon as it is available. Please let me know when that will be.
    Thank You!

Shawna, As a songwriter myself, I was tempted to be jealous of your work (my “Jesus Walked Upon the Water” came out about the same time as your “The Miracle” on a similar theme) but as Primary Singing Time leader, I am so grateful for your beautiful work. Your music and your words are so inspired and so inspiring, and we love singing your songs. So looking forward to this new one, which I know will become the theme song for our still-virtual Singing Times (I’ve recorded 41 virtual episodes since last March and still at it). My thanks and prayers for your continued success!
