I WILL SHINE

So I planned to release this song last Spring...but then my life got in the way. And now, I think maybe the start of the school year is the perfect time for it! The kids are going back to face a challenging world - and what better message can they have in their hearts and minds than being true to the light of Christ within them? What better way can they overcome the anxiety of a new social landscape than reaching out, being kind, serving others?

Well, that's the story I'm going to tell myself, anyway, rather than agonizing about the song being so late.

I loved working with this great group of girls from Utah COPA (Conservatory of Performing Arts). They are uber talented. And adorable. But more impressive, they are kind and thoughtful and respectful. I just love them all!

*This is important -- I have two more songs ready to go, but they don't have videos yet. The videos always slow me way down. Writing, recording and transcribing a song is a huge project by itself! But then if I have to do a video, it's an additional huge project. So I'm asking you: Are the videos important to you? Or would you just rather get the music faster? Comment below -- I can't answer you directly on this thread, but I'll be thankful for your feedback.

Special thanks to:

Mindy Robbins, Erin Robbins and Utah COPA

Daniel Blomberg @ Blomberg Music Productions

Monica Wright for her beautiful videography

I noticed that many of my favorite songs on our “Sunday” Youtube channel were by you! I enjoy the videos, but like many, I am happy with just a picture for the video, and the lyrics are a nice touch.
So often a line in a song bring tears of gratitude to my eyes. Thank you for allowing the Spirit to work through you!

I just wanted to say that I agree with some of the other comments, that we don’t need a video released immediately with the song as long as we have a way to hear it. I love your music and I have used it for solos in church. It always has a deep impact that brings the spirit into our Sacrament meetings, so thank you so much for all that you do.

Dear Shawna, Your music has been introduced to my children in primary at church. They independently find the videos online primarily to listen. The video is just their medium. I agree with some earlier posts, share the music first. Lyric videos with a single image will reach the youtube generation easily. When a message would be more powerful carried with a video I’m sure the Lord will tell you which ones to consecrate that time towards . You are assisting in His work, and He will lead you in your time each time you sit down to this work. He knows what His children amoung your listeners, or those who will later be listeners, need. He will lead you in ways that magnify that which you are doing in Him.
You are empowering the testimonies of many, because of the tremendous Spirit your music carries. You are quite literally imbuing youth, parents, families and congregations with light.
I loved Katy’s comment that she is praying for your efforts to fill the world with light. I’ve never considered that, to pray for those who create that which inspires. We will add you to our prayers and your family. Thank you, with a most grateful heart, Patsy McGavock

I really have enjoyed your music and the arrangements as well. I especially appreciate the calm and serenity your music brings to my heart. It is hard to find contemporary Christian music that isn’t “rockish” nowadays and when they are not that they are tense and don’t bring peacefulness to our minds. I also love the arrangements done by Masa F. in particular. And the singers for all the songs have beautiful voices. My favorites songs are: Risen, Coming home, Everything Speaks His Name and now I will Shine. Congratulations and may God keep blessing your ministry as a composer to bring us more great music.

As far as the videos go, it’s lovely to have them. However if that puts a lot of burden on you, but you still want to do a video per say, you could just add pictures such as the video for Everything Speaks His Name… just the recording and some pictures… that may be easier to do and the people that enjoy watching a videos can still have that. As for me, more songs without videos would be just as good.

Thank you again and God bless!

I love the videos and they do bring the songs to life but access to your beautiful music and inspirational lyrics is the most important part for me.
